The role

As a Social Media Manager (SMM), you'll be a master of client management, providing exceptional customer service and building lasting relationships. Your main goal is to retain clients by ensuring their packages achieve their objectives and even expanding them when appropriate. You'll handle all client communications, from kick-off calls to monthly reports, and take charge of strategic development for paid social advertising campaigns. Additionally, you'll play a role in social media management, including content creation, scheduling, and community engagement. You'll have your own set of clients to work with regularly and will also support other team members when needed, giving you exposure to diverse businesses and industries.

Reporting Line

Your day-to-day work will be supported by the Senior Social Media Manager(s), with overall supervision and oversight provided by the Head of Operations.

Performance Expectations

As a Social Media Manager, the main metric your performance will be judged upon is client retention:

What you’ll be doing

As a Social Media Manager, you will oversee paid advertising for multiple clients, as well as manage client relationships and occasionally handle social media deliverables. Your key responsibilities include:

Client Management:

  • Cultivating positive, long-term relationships with clients.

  • Conducting research and analysis to develop and update client strategies.

  • Liaising with clients through various channels to ensure effective communication.

  • Coordinating all written communications, including strategy documents and reports.

  • Overseeing the work of assistants contributing to client packages.

  • Keeping relevant stakeholders informed by including them in communications.

Paid Social Media Advertising:

  • Planning and creating engaging paid campaigns across digital channels.

  • Staying updated on paid advertising policies and ensuring compliance.

  • Optimizing existing campaigns based on data analysis and making data-driven decisions.

  • Managing the paid advertising budget and ensuring targets are met.

Social Media Management:

  • Handling day-to-day management of social media channels across multiple platforms.

  • Creating original and strategically planned organic posts with compelling copy and visuals.

  • Planning and scheduling content using relevant tools.

  • Managing social media communities and engaging in discussions.

  • Assisting with influencer marketing campaigns and reporting.

  • Building relationships with influencers.

  • Assisting with onboarding new clients and creating initial posts based on the strategy.

  • Managing competitions and campaigns to promote clients' brands.

Learning & Improving:

  • Conducting industry, audience, and competitor research to inform social media activities.

  • Monitoring, tracking, and analysing performance using social media tools.

  • Identifying opportunities for improvement and recommending changes to enhance performance.

  • Proactively solving problems and ensuring customer-focused service delivery.

  • Staying updated on the latest trends and techniques in social media.

  • Sharing insights and lessons learned with the team.

Communications & Culture:

  • Using Asana to stay organized and maintain clear client-related records.

  • Attending team meetings and training sessions.

  • Engaging in virtual team activities and discussions.

  • Assisting with duties outside your role when necessary.

Who we are looking for

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Understanding of the digital marketing landscape.

  • Experience delivering social media content for businesses across various platforms.

  • Paid advertising experience.

  • Excellent writing skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • Customer service or client/account management experience.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Lots of initiative and a strategic mindset

  • Experience working in an agency or other fast paced environment

  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.

  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.

  • A drive for personal improvement.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

  • Ability to attend monthly team office day in Portsmouth.

It's advantageous if you also have:

  • Experience as a social media manager, paid social advertiser, or content writer – agency side.

  • Blogging experience.

  • Knowledge in other areas of marketing.

  • Experience in client/customer-facing roles.

  • Team management experience.

  • Qualifications in Marketing, Journalism, Media, Advertising, or English.

While we have an office space located in the picturesque Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, its use is entirely optional. Candidates should live within a commutable distance of our Portsmouth offices to facilitate this.

Our weekly meetings and training sessions are conducted digitally via Microsoft Teams, ensuring constant communication and support among our remote team members.
